Family-friendly vacations

Updated July 2026

Family travel doesn’t mean giving up good hotels — it means choosing places that forgive early bedtimes and wet swimsuits. A few patterns that keep working.

Formats that work

  • Villa with a pool — privacy, a kitchen for odd hours, and space for everyone to decompress. Best with a local housekeeper or chef a few nights.
  • Resort with a kids’ club you actually trust — Six Senses, Four Seasons and a handful of others get this right. Check ages and hours before you book the room category.
  • City + beach split — two or three nights of culture, then a softer finish. Children usually prefer the second half.
A note

One connecting room or a villa suite beats two distant doubles. The logistics of bedtime are half the holiday.

A few destinations that behave

Algarve and Mallorca for easy flights and villas. Maldives or Mauritius when you want the water to do the entertainment. Italian lakes in shoulder season if you want beauty without a theme park schedule.

Share ages, school dates and whether you need a nanny-friendly setup — I’ll send a short shortlist rather than twenty options.
